Each project has its own theme, components, and pages. All team members can access every project.

Create a project

  1. Open the Projects page — click the Subframe logo in the top left
  2. Click Start from scratch…
  3. Enter a name
  4. Choose how to start:
    • Blank — A clean slate with no theme or components. Best for importing your designs.
    • Start from prebuilt — A ready-made theme and components to build on.
    • Duplicate existing project — A copy of one of your existing projects.
  5. Click Create
To start from an existing app, click Open local codebase… in the desktop app and choose your app’s root folder. Subframe creates a project named after the folder, with your codebase connected.
Free plans allow 1 project. Upgrade to Pro for unlimited projects.

Switching projects

Open the Projects page to see all projects, then click a project to open it. Type to search if you have many.

Manage all projects

Open the Projects page to see every project in one place. Search by name or sort by most recent or alphabetically to find a project quickly.

Group projects

Groups keep related projects together on the Projects page, for example by client or product. Everyone on your team sees the same groups.
  1. Open the Projects page
  2. Click New group
  3. Type a name and press Enter
To add a project to a group, drag it onto the group. You can also click … beside the project, select Move to group, and pick a group or New group. Select Remove from group to take it out. To create a project directly in a group, click … beside the group and select New project. To delete a group, click … beside it and select Delete…. Its projects are kept and moved out of the group.

Rename a project

  1. Open the Projects page
  2. Click … beside the project and select Rename
  3. Type the new name and press Enter

Duplicate a project

On the Projects page, click … beside a project and select Duplicate, then click Create. This creates a new project with the same components, theme, and pages.

Delete a project

On the Projects page, click … beside a project and select Delete….
Deleting is permanent. All pages, components, and theme data are erased.

Sync design system across projects

This feature is only available on custom plans. Reach out to support@subframe.com to learn more.
If you maintain a separate design system project:
  1. Click the project menu next to the Subframe logo
  2. Select Sync project…
  3. Follow the prompts to merge updates

Transfer a project to another team

To transfer a project to another team, email support@subframe.com.

Permissions

Only Admins and Editors can create, rename, duplicate, delete, and group projects.

FAQ

You can’t copy/paste elements between projects, but you can import both components and pages from another project.
